Phillip D. Murphy - Principal
Phillip D. Murphy is based in the Charlotte, North Carolina office
of Winters & Co. Advisors, LLC. He is one of the pioneers
of the municipal derivative and investment agreement business having
developed or improved many of the structures being used in the
market today. He has over 15 years of experience in leadership
positions with some of the most well respected financial institutions
providing investment agreements and derivative products today.
Background
Prior to joining Winters & Co. Advisors, LLC, Mr. Murphy served
as a Managing Director in the tax-exempt derivatives group at Bank
of America, a business he helped establish in 1998 and which
became an industry leader in less than four years.
Before joining Bank of America, Mr. Murphy served as a Senior
Vice President and Derivative Product Manager for First Union National
Bank where he specialized in the design and marketing of tax-exempt
related derivative products and investment agreements since 1993. Earlier
he held senior derivatives positions with Sumitomo Bank and Toronto-Dominion
Bank in New York City.
In his role as provider of derivative products and investment
agreements, Mr. Murphy has structured or supervised over 2,000
transactions with over 1,200 clients in the past 5 years alone. There
are few individuals in the derivative advisory industry that can
offer this level of “insiders” expertise to clients.
Education
Mr. Murphy holds an MBA in Finance from
Fordham University, where he was elected to membership in Beta
Gamma Sigma (the National Scholastic Honorary Society in the field
of Business Administration) and a BA in Economics from Syracuse
University. Mr. Murphy has appeared
as a guest lecturer on the uses, and limitations, of tax-exempt
derivatives at a number of industry conferences.
